Ethanol-induced urticaria caused by sensitization to acetic acid

Alcoholic beverages contain ethanol, usually known as alcohol. The adverse effects of alcohol consumption are well known, but there are reactions, such as urticaria and anaphylaxis, that are rare and less known. The etiopathogenic mechanism of these reactions is not clear and seems to be multifactorial. We describe a patient who developed urticaria after drinking alcoholic beverages likely because of acetic acid allergic sensitization.
