Novel basophil activation test in diagnosis of povidone anaphylaxis

Novel basophil activation test in diagnosis of povidone anaphylaxis: Medications generally contain two components: the active ingredient – intended to produce the desired therapeutic effect, and excipients – inactive ingredients added for purposes such as improving absorption and product stability. Although considered inert, excipients may represent occult allergens capable of causing allergic reactions. To date, thirty-eight excipients have been described to cause symptoms, with an increasing number of reports documenting type 1 hypersensitivity reactions1.
